SKILLS

EXPERIENCE

Hagerty Insurance β€” Software Engineer, Web Platforms

October 2020 - Present

I work on a React application built with NextJS using TypeScript, Sass, and Apollo GraphQL. It is tested with Jest for unit and snapshot tests, and Cypress for end-to-end tests.

Webpages are generated dynamically from data in a Contentful headless CMS and built from React components in our in-house Hagerty Design System component library. By controlling content in a headless CMS, non-technical users are empowered to create and edit web pages without developer assistance. This enables us to focus on features and enhancements to extend the capabilities of the applications all across the Hagerty organization.

We use SAFe Scrum to coordinate with other teams, and work on 2 week sprint increments. We have Sprint Planning on the last day of every sprint, Backlog Refinement on the off-weeks, and daily stand-up every morning. We write our own User Stories in Azure DevOps and use Fibonacci numbers for effort points.

Midmark RTLS β€” Software Engineer

June 2018 - October 2020

I worked as a full stack web developer building a Real Time Locating System on Azure cloud. I was the primary front-end developer of a Typescript ReactJS codebase with Redux state management and RxJS observables for async actions. I also gained experience writing REST APIs in .NET Core, Azure SQL Server, and Entity Framework Core. Additionally, I became a certified Scrum Master during my time at Midmark.

Munson Healthcare β€” Computer Systems Analyst, Clinical Applications

May 2015 - June 2018

I developed custom reports for our in-house mLinks web application. These worked as an embedded browser in Cerner applications. They provided unique insight of medical data from Cerner’s patient records in an Oracle SQL database. We used an Ubuntu LAMP server that had a PHP backend and JavaScript with jQuery on the front-end. I also gained experience from customer support for Cerner applications, such as PowerChart and FirstNet. My team shared a rotating on-call schedule for 24-hour support to medical professionals.

Asure Software β€” Development and QA Intern

June 2013 - August 2013

I worked for a summer internship with PeopleCube in Traverse City. They were in the process of acquisition by Asure Software. I worked with another intern to test the applications. We used Selenium to automate user processes and I wrote python scripts to test data. I also created dozens of Virtual Machine snapshots to replicate server environments for each Windows Server version and each Service pack.

EDUCATION

Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti Mi β€” BS in Computer Science, Math minor

September 2013 - April 2015

I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University with a Computer Science major and a Math minor. I graduated with a GPA of Magna Cum Laude status. I learned Java for Data Structures and Algorithms. I had a web development class for JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. I learned SQL databases and designed a web application with PHP and SQLite. My final semester, I studied Big Data and learned the Hadoop filesystem and used MapReduce to process data. My final project was data mining 30GB of text from Amazon Reviews. My Python script analyzed the reviews and created a sentiment value for each word of the English language. I also wrote a MINIX OS from the command line.

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI β€” Studied Electrical Engineering

September 2008 - December 2011

I started my college education at the University of Michigan and studied Electrical Engineering for 2 and a half years. The majority of my lower level classes were completed here. After getting deeper into the classes for my major, I realized hardware was not the field I wanted to pursue. I worked as a mechanic in bike shops as I considered my future options and later decided to study Computer Science instead.

Traverse City Central High School

Class of 2008

Born and raised in Traverse City, I graduated from Traverse City Central in 2008. I played on the varsity hockey team and won the 2006 State Championship. I also sang in choirs, was the bass guitarist in jazz band, and played the euphonium for concert and marching band.
